Support My Dream, I Want to Keep Taking Photos

There are passions that, over the years, come to represent far more than a way to relax or a hobby to fill our free time, eventually becoming an integral part of who we are. Interests and aspirations that allow us to express ourselves, fueling projects and ambitions, and that, through a perspective always looking toward the horizon, push us to improve, gradually transforming a simple inclination into something capable of taking on a much deeper meaning.

Sometimes, however, circumstances and obstacles we could never have anticipated appear along the way, forcing us to stop just when the path seemed to be clearly laid out ahead of us. When an illness is what brings everything to a halt, starting again means facing not only our physical condition, but also everything we have had to sacrifice in the meantime, while trying to rebuild the tools we need to return to what we love.

This is the situation behind “Support My Dream, I Want to Keep Taking Photos,” a personal fundraising campaign created on TrustMeUp by Remi Affari.

The fundraiser was created to help Remi purchase the photography equipment he had to give up in order to cover his initial medical expenses and enroll in specialized workshops, allowing him to resume the projects he had to put on hold.

When a Passion Becomes a Project

Remi is 45 years old and, alongside his interest in comics and video games, has a deep passion for photography.

Over the past few years, he had been making significant progress as a photographer and had begun turning that passion into several concrete projects, while also trying to put his skills at the service of others.

One of the initiatives he had started was creating semi-professional photographs for young people who couldn’t afford to hire a professional photographer. He had already made several informal agreements for the project.

An Illness That Forced Him to Stop

Over the past year, however, Remi’s everyday life has changed dramatically.

As he explains in his campaign, he was diagnosed with systemic autoimmune vasculitis, a condition that, in his case, affected his lungs and left him physically very debilitated.

The initial medical expenses therefore forced him to sell much of his photography equipment, taking away the very tools he had been using to pursue his path as a photographer.

Projects Suddenly Put on Hold

The need to stop inevitably affected the initiatives Remi had already begun developing.

In addition to the photography project for young people, he also had to put another idea on hold: creating personalized screensavers featuring the constellations associated with different zodiac signs.

What had until then been a steadily developing journey was suddenly interrupted, but Remi’s determination to start again despite the difficulties remained intact.

Getting Back Behind the Camera

Today, Remi doesn’t want to give up on his goal.

Picking up a camera again would allow him to continue pursuing something he is passionate about and enjoys, while also giving him the opportunity to once again contribute to his family’s finances through his own efforts.

To do that, however, he needs to rebuild what the circumstances of the past year forced him to sacrifice, regaining access to the equipment and training he needs to continue developing his photography.

Around €3,000 to Start Again

The funds raised through the campaign will go toward purchasing new photography equipment and enrolling in specialized workshops.

According to Remi, around €3,000 would provide the resources he needs to get back on track and bring continuity to the projects he had to put on hold.

In this case, reaching that goal would therefore represent much more than simply purchasing new equipment. It would help bring renewed substance, strength, and energy to his passion.

When Solidarity Helps Bring a Goal Back Into Focus

Every photograph begins with a perspective that selects a moment, finds its point of view, and gradually brings into focus what it wants to tell. Sometimes, life requires us to find that same focus again, recovering something that was temporarily lost when circumstances changed the picture we had in front of us.

Contributing to Remi’s fundraiser can help him do exactly that: regain the tools he needs to start taking photographs again, continue his training, and try to turn his ideas into concrete projects once more.

As a thank-you, Remi has also chosen to give each donor a photograph of the Moon that he took during one of its different phases, sharing through an image the very passion he hopes to continue pursuing.

A Gesture to Get Back Behind the Lens

Illness forced Remi to put his journey on hold and give up much of the equipment he had built up over time, but it didn’t erase his desire to pick up where he had to stop.

Supporting him means helping rebuild the tools he needs to get back behind the lens, continue taking photographs, pursue further training, and work toward the projects he had begun to imagine.
